This is something I already wrote about in the post "what I've learned so far" - #3. We drove up that very stiff cliffside via switchbacks on a 3 mile gravel/dirt road.

That part of the road was created by the Mormons! They were moving from Salt Lake City to the southeast part of Utah (well, at least, that's as far as they made it!) to start a farming community. They couldn't find a way down from this plateau; it goes on and on and on.... So they made their own way down. They chipped away and did whatever it took, so that they could get down. Their 6 week journey turned into a 6 month journey.

So... Greg and I have traveled on a very small portion of the Mormon trail!
