And that means more rain and more fog. What up with that?? It's usually pretty dry there.
This time we took a highway that was supposed to take us to the highest paved pass in the U.S. Hmm... the map didn't say that we had to get OFF that highway onto a different road. So we missed the peak of excitement. hahaha But it was pretty scenic anyway along Squaw Pass:
Tunnels, tunnels, everywhere. At least it seems like it. I guess that's better than up and over, up and over. Well, actually that wouldn't be so bad on the bike, but in the rig - ug. Bad news. 
Greg went on a nice long ride while I was hanging at the RV scrapping and relaxing (previous post). He got a little wet, but not bad considering the rain and hail I saw back at camp. Looks like a fun ride, doesn't it?
ps - Greg thinks I need a stud in that there tongue. Whaddya think? bwahahahahaWe did a route that was supposed to be scenic in central CO. Hmm.... well, occasionally it happens that others' opinions on "scenic" don't match ours. This was one of those days. But one thing made it kinda worthwhile...
who gets the gold today? - who can name that tune (and musical group for bonus points)?
On our return trip, I was all settled back, expecting blah scenery again/still, but to my surprise we actually did drive thru a neat little area!
We headed back into Colorado, on the last stretch of the race. LOL Greg loves riding the roads in CO, so we're back during the warm months, unlike the last time, at the beginning of this trip, when a snowstorm blocked the tunnel to go into the mountains from Denver. These pictures are all taken in the southwest part of the state.

These next two are especially for Pat and Art - notice the guard rails? oh, oops, neither do I. There aren't any. Many roads don't have the guards, yikes, it can be a bit freaky occasionally. But I think I've been doing great, given that I have a slight fear of heights. I try to keep busy taking pictures so I don't THINK about the drop and the height, etc. And even though these were both taken while we were riding on the rock side - don't even think that we do that on purpose. I swear we're on the dropoff side more than the rock side!!
This last picture I took while thinking of Greg. Um, ok, maybe I need to clarify. I took this photo while thinking about how Greg likes to take unusual pictures, particularly signs. Really...
We went to Moab, Utah, and toured Canyonlands N.P. - there are three sections, only two of which are easily accessible. The two we visited have pretty distinctive characteristics. We also went to Dead Horse Point State Park - amazing views there! We had visited this area, both parks, previously, and wanted to revisit them since we had the time.

In the Needles section, we did a piece on a gravel/dirt road. It wasn't too bad, even with the uphill/downhill and the curves and switchbacks.
This photo is from the Islands in the Sky section of Canyonlands. In this section, you're at the top looking down into the canyons. 
And these next two photos are from Dead Horse Point - it's very close to Islands in the Sky, and the similarities are obvious. I actually think the views are better from DHP, altho these photos don't necessarily show that - lighting was getting too rough to get good pictures.
Arches N.P. (Utah) isn't just arches. Oh, no. There are all kinds of cool rock formations. Plus the La Sal Mtns in the background. Can I say it??? - {giggle} - rock on!!
Check out how tiny puny the little humans are in this picture of Delicate Arch. Gives some perspective, doesn't it? 
Gotta say it again - I LOVE Utah! It is gorgeous - as soon as you start thinking "ok, this isn't very exciting" you turn a corner and it's amazing again!
But dang, it's so stinking hot here right now. Up in the 100s. Yeah, yeah, it's a dry heat. That don't mean jack sh** to me - it's still scorching! LOL
I love the chocolate and caramel colors in this photo - it really isn't common.
Cedar Breaks National Monument reminded us a lot of Bryce Canyon, which makes sense, as they aren't too far apart. Big deep canyons, beautiful reds and peaches and browns and greys, and hoodoos to boot.
Hmm... for those of you who don't know what hoodoos are... they're tall thin spires of rock, I guess you'd say. The rock formation on the left side of this photo would be a hoodoo. Oh, and this picture is from Bryce Canyon. However, this year we didn't go deep into the park, we just didn't have time. Well, ok, I didn't want to MAKE the time - due to...
Yep, that's a rainsuit. Yep, we got rained on. Yep, we only had our half helmets on. But it could have been worse - it was absolutely pouring in locations around us, even with lightning, but somehow our path wound through some of the non-rain and light rain areas.
Capitol Reef is another cool National Park. Lots of red rock, plus other colors too! Love the lines and the strata in the red rock there. Both of these next two photos are from there.
Yes, I'm still photographing the occasional flower. I thought these two were both quite pretty!
there is a fun little road that Greg read about online on a motorcycle riding webpage. It goes up into the mountains and has great views of Mt Nebo. The scenic byway climbs to over 9000 feet, and has lots of twisty turnies. Fun!
We did a ride thru Flaming Gorge National Rec Area (Wyoming/Utah) - it seems like the areas I thought would rock (haha) weren't too exciting, but the parts I thought would be blah were really neat! Flaming Gorge Reservoir and Dam were cool too.
While in Teton National Park, we of course did a ride around the area. The surrounding area is pretty, but the real focus is the mountains themselves. wow - they're almost as fab as the Sawtooth Mtns!
