wild...

wild shores...

The coast of California is beautiful. It is awe-inspiring ruggedness. There are bluffs, beaches, coves, etc. The Pacific Coast Highway follows the twists and turns of the coastline much of the time. We drove the highway northward, because I was nervous about being on the ocean and cliff edge of the road. Well, it wasn't too bad, at least along this stretch, so we rode the same highway back southward to the RV.

wild flowers...

I love taking pics of vegetation, especially flowers. The shape and fuzziness of this lovely orange blossom fascinated me. And since purple is my favorite color, I couldn't resist taking a photo of the luminescent purple and yellow flowers either.

and wildlife...

Ok, maybe not so wild. This little guy was quite the beggar. He walked (on all four paws) somewhat near to us and then he stood up on his back two legs. I thought he was kinda cute and said "Greg - look - he's a little beggar." So what did he do? He got back down on all four, came a little closer, then stood back up begging. And then again, closer, and closer, and closer. (This photo was taken with NO zoom!) I think he would have taken food right out of my hand if I would have fed him. But nope, he's SUPPOSEDLY wildlife, and of course we don't feed the wildlife!

So now these guys are truly wildlife. They are elephant seals - a huge mass of them. They come into shore to rest, as well as to feed their young and shed their skin. They are just the cutest big things ever! LOL They seemed to be trying to stay warm, huddling together, snuggling closer, flipping sand onto their own bodies, etc. Most of them seemed to be sleeping, totally immobile.
They make different noises, so they are definitely communicating with one another. Sometimes they seemed to be yelling at each other, then almost fighting, but just for a few moments and then it was done.

Awesome pictures! We visited San-Francisco area 2 years ago and I loved the beach! Of course we saw the seals. Aren't they the cutest?
